OMG WTF WoT

Completed fanboy ninja mission to Borders. Acquired Knife of Dreams.
Began reading it immediately, despite the fact that I have two other books I'm currently reading, one of which somebody else will be waiting for.

Hah!

There was a brief moment in which I forgot the difference between Damodred, a Cairhienian house which counts among its numbers Moiraine Sedai and Galad of the Children of the Light, and Demandred, a Forsaken (during which I did exclaim "No Fricking Way!" with more loudness than was necessary). I seem to be past that now. The other thing, which lingers, is a newfound respect for said Galad. He seems to do okay, once he gets pointed in the right direction.

Inspiring, aren't they?

Can you walk in and out of Borders? always have to browse, have espresso, drool on the various books.

My self-discipline is diamond, my concentration steel.

Actually, I do just walk in and out of Borders, because if I'm ever there, it's on a specific errand for something that's just come out, and is therefore likely to be close to the front door.

I do my wandering around (and buy most of my books) at Half-Price Books, where it's much cheaper to give into temptation.

Ahhh... I can never just walk into a bookstore.
Being pretty much deprived for 18 years has left me with a sense of wonder I may never get over.

Speaking of which, the last TWO times we were in Half-Price Books, I walked out not having spent a dime. [livejournal.com profile] nodeal57 can tell you how wondrously amazing that is.

Wow. I'm impressed. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were there on Sunday and spent like $50. This is low for us.

self-discipline

I hate going to Border's anymore because I either spend way too much money or I get frustrated at everything I want to spend money on but shouldn't. I recently went just for "Anansi Boys", and ended up spending $150.

I used to be unable to leave Half-Price Books without spending at least $25, but since that's largely how I built my library I feel like it's no longer as easy to find things there I want but don't have. Though there's also the factor that I sadly no longer live near one.... bringing me back to my expensive Border's frustration.

Oooh... Anansi Boys. How is it?

I try to limit my trips to HPB, space them out, so that there's a larger chance that there will be new stuff I want. Sometimes that even works. My real peril is Amazon, so I try not to go there if I can avoid it.

Since I'd already started Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (as well as a small 1958 collection of sci-fi shorts), I'm exercising great willpower to put off reading Anansi Boys. On the other hand, I bought The Kindly Ones at the same time, and finished that over the weekend.

The only way I can escape Amazon with my bank account intact is if I only go there for specific things, as you do in Border's. My wishlist there has 300-some items, though most are CDs.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell is one of my favorite books of all time, ever.
