Didn't see that one coming

Yep. Let it be known, the theme of the weekend was "Well, I didn't see *that* one coming", both in the sarcastic and sincere inflections.

Surprises:
- Ritual did not in fact, flail and die. [livejournal.com profile] cerunnos did not send me anything about his part until Sunday morning, which Freaked Me Right Out, but he performed like a champ in actual ritual space, so well done, there.
- My hair. It is orange. Bright shiny solar orange, a color only found when one applies a coat of weak bleach to red hair, and then attempts to apply a color overtop that doesn't take at all one bit, which is, of course, exactly what happened. I was attempting to go green for St. Patrick's day. However, it should be noted that Manic Panic dye is nothing, nothing in comparison with Special Effects. Special Effects' Sonic Green turned my hair, the bathtub, a glass bowl and some hapless wooden cooking implements green. Manic Panic's Green Envy failed to even turn the rinse water green, to say nothing of further non-ocurring greenness. Needless to say, I know what not to buy in the future.

Totally not a surprise:
- Failed to get any more than 20% of the membership to show up on Saturday for the Gaia board meeting, when 40% was needed to do the business at hand.

Anyway, that was that, and this is this, as the song says. Happy Steak and Blowjobs Day to all.

Of all colors to wear on St. Patrick's Day, though, I'm sure you are cognizant of the fact that orange would be the most dangerous from the religiocultural angle. Just thought I'd cheer you right up there.

I felt like an absolute idiot forgetting that meeting, what with having put the announcement in the bulletin and all. Even at that, though, I don't think I'm 20% of the membership.

Steak and Blowjobs Day? Hmm. Food for thought either way.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
orange would be the most dangerous from the religiocultural angle.

Yeah. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid said something to the effect of, "That's okay - you're not Catholic"... I suppose I could be profoundly Protestant for the day. Or, I could just protest everything for the day. That's the same thing, right?

Steak and Blowjobs Day? Hmm. Food for thought either way.

Two years ago, [livejournal.com profile] iron_clad, in his brief rule as King of Everything, made a proclamation that since, in his opinion, Feb. 14 was all about chocolate and flowers and jewelry, and other things that girls want, that March 14 should be about what guys want, which, in his opinion, boiled down to steak and blowjobs. Hence, the addition of the holiday to the calendar.

[identity profile] diermuid.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Manic Panic is some of the worst non-dying dye I have ever laid on my head. It was probably a good thing, since I had a job I was working... but it was still an annoying waste of $5-10.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Poop on it, I say. I wouldn't have bought it at all, except that the shop where I have previously bought the Special Effects dye seems to be closed for Spring Break, or some such thing.

Steak and Blowjobs Day?

You're putting me on.

It's a colorful local festival :)

Re: Local, of course.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it's a worthy festival. Feel free to strip-mine the cultural influence in this case.

Re: Local, of course.

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And how would I do that?

::eyeroll::

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You're kidding, right? It's cultural warfare. You declare it and then educate folks about it as if they really ought to have known before. Start small, man. You could say it's a cross-cultural tradition initiated by Prince Roger, common among moderns central county clans.

Re: ::eyeroll::

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh*

That would require talking to people. I don't like most people enough to talk to them. I suppose I'll just have to cope with my involuntary steakless celibacy. Thanks for trying to motivate me, though.

Re: ::eyeroll::

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That attitude will never get you a steak and a blowjob, dear. Remind me to deliver you a swift kick if you're ever in close proximity.

XO

Well, you know, a steak you can cook for yourself. The other is excessively gymnastic.

Somebody should clue this poor man in about what he's asking for from me. I am not a kind person.

pfft. Clues are for the weak.

Clues are for the weak.

This is why you rule.

Right up until the point where [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare kicks his ass, at which point he will be Zeta Dog on the totem pole.

[livejournal.com profile] greektoomey Seriously. You know not of whence you speak, when you encourage Saff to kick you into shape. She's not talking about the happy-fun way...

Well, absent a clue (as is my wont), I'm guessing that it would not entail hospitalization, and that's good enough for me.

Always, always, always negotiate terms beforehand.

Terms

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No scarring (or other permanent physical marks), no blood, no hospitalization, and a safeword. Easy as pie!

Observing from a distance

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are your terms.

I don't think you understand: you already agreed to it, by some definitions.

Re: Terms

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I did, and I stand by my words.

I'm puzzled by your reaction. I appreciate your concern for my welfare, but it intrigues me that you seem to feel so confidently that my mouth is writing a check my ass can't cash. I'm sure your assessment of [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare's severity is fair, but I don't know what data you're using to assess me.

I may be assigning you a familiarity of response to which you are unaccustomed or that I am not entitled to assume with you. We have a grand tradition locally called "Giving Each Other Shit". Your failure to negotiate terms before tacitly approving your ass-kicking by [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare qualifies you for such a tradition.

Really, it's not *your* sturdiness that's in question. It's that we know the depths of resolve to which Saff will go to in the name of "teaching moments". Furniture fails that test, sometimes, when faced with an incoming student. She's willing to inflict damage on herself and others to get that point across, if needs be.

But mostly, we're just fucking with you. *grin*
Come on down to KC, please; [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale will shield you with her body, if it comes to that.

And now it all makes sense.

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Although I may very well be unteachable, in which case it would be interesting (to the observer) to see exactly what measures [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare would deem appropriate in the name of learning. I have a monolithically bad attitude, you see.

I am familiar with the GEOS tradition, if not the KC embellishments. In my experience, this has usually been practiced by those who would call themselves "friends," though, and I don't think we have been properly introduced. My name is Eli; how do you do? Don't mind if I add you to my LJ friendslist, I hope. (Consider that encouragement to stay the GEOS course.)

As mentioned in a subsequent thread, I plan to make the pilgrimage to your locale in August. I am sure that if it should be necessary, I will never have encountered a more pleasant aegis.

G'day, Eli

[identity profile] triadruid.livejournal.com 2005-03-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm David.

I think what you're getting at is what I was trying (but obviously failing) to say in my last message; I had ascribed you a higher degree of 'friendliness' than you strictly deserved/were aware of, by simple virtue of seeing your name in several friends' journals and trading comments with you on occasion.

I don't post much, but you're absolutely welcome to add me if you so desire. I'll also do the reverse just so we stay on an even keel, as it were.

Oh no. Far be it from me to stand between a man and his masochism.

Re: Terms

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-16 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean I can't use you as a shield if I get scared? *wibble*

Terms?

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-03-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought we were just discussing a kick in the ass.

Re: Terms?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The record shows "a swift kick". If I were you, I'd specify that it was to be a kick to the ass. It's difficult to put a man in the hospital with a kick to the ass, unless it's a kick up the ass, which is a different matter entirely. In the interest of disclosure, Saff takes a size 7 boot. But I'm reasonably sure that if a boot up the ass were intended, she'd have said so.

Go boldly forward, young man.

To be frank, I generally find dissection of what might be interpreted as "flirting" to be slightly distasteful; I am certain that the interested parties would behave prudently (to the extent to which prudence does not interfere with fun) should the situation become non-virtual.

However in this instance, it has served to amuse me to no end, thus proving itself to be an exception. Your encouragement is vastly appreciated.
