Of knees

I have had a lot of trouble with my left knee for the last three years. Usually, it takes the form of pain going up and down stairs and stiffness. Today, it is not hurting or stiff, but is emitting a sound every time I take a step that sounds disturbingly like whirrrr....click.

I do not think that this could possibly be a good sign.

Sounds like your gnomish engineers have been making improvements...

That's what I'm afraid of, really.

Well...

The pain up and down the stairs sounds like bursitis, but the stiffness and joint click make it sound more like osteoarthritis. Now the *nice* thing about osteo is that it's just wear and tear, it isn't your body deciding to attack itself. Both are typically treated with NSAIDS though.

Dang! I knew all of those biology/med school classes would come in handy...

Nope. Not a good sign. Buy some very high quality salmon oil (preferably from a company called GNLD, private dist. only) and take some (probably around 3) every night before bed. I've had people report amazing results with knee and joint pain from taking it for only a couple weeks. It can give you nasty indigestion if you don't A) keep it in the freezer and B) take it before bed so it digests while you're asleep. The nasty side effects include improved elimination and lowered blood pressure...

Hrm... I think I saw some regular old garden variety fish oil capsules about the house, but I'm guessing that wouldn't satisfy the recommendation... will look into the salmon oil - Thanks!

Also you can try Glucosamine/Chondroitin. It basically is supposed to lubricate the cartilage in your joints. My doctor recommended it for a ruptured disk in my back, but I've also noticed a great improvement in the flexibility of my knee, which I blew out skiing at age 16. I take it twice a day for the last six months and have noticed a definite improvement. If you want to try it take it for at least 30-60 days before it really kicks in.

I bought her two bottles of the stuff several months ago. They still haven't been opened.

Chiropractic

I have had problems with my knees off and on for many years (a function I think of having grown too quickly as a child). I have been going to a chiropractor recently and have found that he can do wonders for my knees. I still get some trouble with them, but not nearly to the extent that I once did. You could try that.

I'd love to be able to go to the chiropractor. Unfortunately, I'm in a no-insurance mode at the moment. Hopefully, that will get straightened out soon, though, and that will be the first thing on the list. I never thought about that sort of treatment for knees, really. Thanks!

It's not as expensive as you might think. My chiropractor is $36 per visit (I go once a week). FOod for thought.

Scenes from the The Terminator come to mind ...

So, tell me, do dogs bark a lot around you?

Do you have a tendency to speak with an Austrian accent?

Y'know, I suggested that last night.

You, sir, have issues. :)

Ummm... no, not really. Occasionally the Austrian accent, but not for long, since I'm not very good at it.
