Dude.

My fortune cookie at lunch today read:

The smart thing to do is not be your self. (sic)

Sort of uncalled-for, no?

That is one cold fortune cookie! Sheesh.

I was just talking to someone at work about just this sort of thing. I told her that I knew there were some people here who think I am just *too weird* to talk to or have anything to do with. I told her that I am here to do a job and that if I make friends or don't make friends with people there it wasn't my first priority. If they like me enough to talk to me great, if they don't, as long as I can still work with them then great. I was told my hair was too wild (You know me and my spikes) and I think several of them here would not know what to do with themselves if they new I was pagan. But I told her that I am not going to be someone I am not, just for these people. It's not worth it. I will be kind, and I will be decent but I will not be *not me* just so they can feel better.

Wow... that was kinda ranty, huh?

good for you

[identity profile] zanzaboonda.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you stuck up for yourself. If you are kind and decent and they can't get past your hair or your religion... well, who'd want friend like that, anyway?

Pretty much what I think. As long as they do not make the working environment difficult *because* of such things, I don't really care much what anyone here thinks of me, except maybe my boss. I have suspect that she may *know* but not *ask* certin things but because I have proven myself "invaluable" (and I quote) over the past few months, I think she is able to look past all that...

How very noble of her! lol Wouldn't that be like if Phil Jackson said something like "I don't like black people but I tolerated Shaq because he helped us win?" (Before anyone jumps on me, no he never said anything like that to my knowledge.)

ROFLMAO. You have a lot of patience to put up with that. Keep being the same kind and respectful person you are and pay them no mind... I hope they don't make the environment miserable for you.

reminds me of a button i once saw:

"I'm not feeling myself today. Maybe I'm you."

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Or possibly, "I'm not feeling myself today. Mind if I feel you?"

I think it indicates something about my basic character that that was the first thing I thought of.

[identity profile] nova-albion.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all.

Oh, wait, there were quotation marks, weren't there.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe. You're a man after me own...er...heart. :)

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I have sign on my desk at school that says, "Sorry if I snap at you. I'm myself today."

[identity profile] celticwhistlin.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to find some of these loverly wittisisms to place in/on/around my cube... I have thought about hitting up [livejournal.com profile] chaosdriud for information on what exactly *is* her chaos meter... I think I need one for around here...

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I have two other signs. One is the one that says "I can only help one person a day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow is not looking good either." The other says, "I don't have an anger problem. I have an idiot problem."

I'm kind like that with my kiddos.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Made for me by the beautiful and talented [livejournal.com profile] triadruid. Aw, hell. I'm just gonna go ahead and friend you, okay?

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise!

And I hope we can meet in person when I get back to KC at the end of December.

[identity profile] celticwhistlin.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
You coming back? After all we put you thru with [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale's birthday party? Maybe I can get you in my dress after all... :-)

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Promises, promises. Nothing but words.

[identity profile] celticwhistlin.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Promises, promises... Threats, Threats...

Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me...

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you say that now, but when I get there you'll be "Oh, silly me. I forgot" or something.

:P

Actions speak louder than words.

[identity profile] celticwhistlin.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of those things... I wasn't wearing a dress at the time so I couldn't give you what I had on... Next time I know your coming, I will make sure to wear one, just so you can have it... :-)

Dates, I need dates and I make sure I put it on my calendar that you are arriving here...

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, don't worry about it, I'm just giving you a hard time. I don't think I actually look very good in a dress.

I don't have dates yet. All I have is figs.

[identity profile] celticwhistlin.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Nice. I need few of those. I have a feeling however that if I put them up... some people consciences will catch up with them and they will believe I have placed such things in order to point fingers and "make them feel bad." (Can you guess that I have already heard this) Therefore, if I do put something like that up... I will get in trouble... AGAIN... oh well. When am I not in trouble.

Hmm...

[identity profile] zanzaboonda.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Once you get past the cold nature of it, I believe there are times when it can be wise to withhold normal behavior. A "choose your battles" kind of thing. *Not* that I would advocate this on a regular basis, but maybe it's forewarning you about a particular situation that maybe you wouldn't normally handle very well? 95% of the time, I would just say that everyone else can just deal with it, but maybe you have a 5% moment coming up? Just a thought.
(I hope this came out right, btw. I like you. I really do.) ;)

Wrong Location??

[identity profile] drummel.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I can't help but imagine a fortune cookie company purposefully placing helpful messages marked for US Shipment: destination: White House: Oval Office. Considering how Bush has been doing I wouldn't be surprised if he has been taking advice from cookies all along anyway. Or maybe someone just didn't read the "Prank" label on the box before handing them out; anyway, It gave me an oppotunity to work in a Bush beating.
