Today's assignment:
"We spend (insert astronomical amount of money here) every month on express mail. Can you find out what we're shipping, and whether or not we need to ship it, or if we can do something cheaper with it?"

Er. Em. Yes.

We're a distributor. We ship things. That is what we do. We send 40,000 - 60,000 packages via express mail every month, in product to consumers, interoffice mail, marketing materials to consumers, marketing material to the sales force, and like ten thousand other things. Sure. I'll just figure out what all of that is. No problem. Er.

Ergh. Maybe I'll think kindly of him, and assume he's trying to figure out if there's any duplication, materials that can be sent by email and then printed at the target office, etc.

Actually, it's a pain in the ass, but a well-intentioned one. They're looking to cut costs in non-people areas so that they can continue to afford all of the staff. Which I thought was kind of them.
