Blarg.

Went in to work this morning, only to get laid off. Does this whole city work on the Sprint model?

Anyhow, if anybody knows of any interesting openings in the KC area, I'd appreciate hearing about them.

Also, yeah, [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42, this means I'm not going to make it down in December. Feh.

Oh no! That sucks! Have they ever heard that they're suppose to do that on a Friday? I can't believe they made you drag yourself in on a Monday to do that. Bastards...

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think they would have done it on Friday, only I was sick with the flu on Friday and didn't come in. Still, at least they did it first thing in the morning and didn't make me stick around and work all day.

[identity profile] chainwoman.livejournal.com 2004-11-09 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
True...

[identity profile] capriciouslass.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
So sorry to hear that! I'll keep my ears open.

[identity profile] gamera-spinning.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
So sorry, my dear. I'll keep an ear to the ground.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that sucks! I hope when you find something, it's something really good. USD 500 has clerical/support positions at the district office and at several schools, plus an opening for an "assessment technology specialist." Are you enough of a computer wonk for that? I don't think you'd have to come near many children for that last one. :-)

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
That last actually sounds a lot like something I used to do for a living. Is your district in Kansas or Missouri?

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kansas City, KS. The main offices are downtown KCK, 3rd floor of the main library. (The school district owns the public library system here.) Here's the link to the Employment Page on the district website.

http://www.kckps.org/employment/classified.html

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks much!

I am applying for the Assessment Specialist job -- can I use you as a reference?

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely!

[identity profile] rio-luna.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
oh shit. did you get any severance or notice?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
I essentially get 2 weeks severance pay, and the company runs a couple weeks behind on pay, so I've got a couple of checks coming. Hopefully I can pick up something else before the money runs out.

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Good God that Blows! Know it was your favorite job in the world but ....crap. Will keep our ears open. Ugh. So sorry to hear this bopped you on the head this morning.
much love headed your way.

[identity profile] diermuid.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
The whole corporate world works on the employee bulemia model (Binge in Spring, Purge in Fall). Sprint does not own the copyright, in Colorado Springs it was the MCI model, in Denver it was the Qwest model, and in any place east of the Mississip, it was the Verizon model.

My condolences at any rate. 8-(

Crap.

[identity profile] opaljax.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Honey, I'm sorry.

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
Wanna work in grocery? We've got several teams hiring, especially part-time and seasonal for the holidays.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm too expensive to work in grocery these days. They hiring any office folk?

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking of it as something to bring in a little money while you look for something more permanent (hence the seasonal/PT suggestion). Grocery team isn't hiring right now, but I think Meat, Produce, and Front End all are. I don't know about Retail Support. If Maria quits, I'll let you know that the acountant position is open, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

Anyway, we've got a nifty new kiosk where you can fill stuff out. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll set you up to meet with the appropriate team leader.

[identity profile] cameellie.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Poop on your former employer! I wish you the best in finding a new job.

[identity profile] starwyse.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's a bummer.

What kind of job are you looking for? I will happily put it out to my many and varied circles, never know what might manifest from the vast networking over the years...let me know.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the offer - I'm looking for something office-manager-ish, or exec. assistant sorts of things.

Or, really, anything interesting that will allow me to work inside and make decent money. I'm pretty flexible about this employment stuff.

UMKC is always hiring for something.

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Here is the link to non-academic jobs:

http://www.umkc.edu/adminfinance/hr/jobs/index.asp

and for academic:

http://www.umkc.edu/html/acjobs/

If you have any interest in furthering your education - full time employees get 3/4 off tuition after 6 mos of employment.

Re: UMKC is always hiring for something.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the suggestion! I always check them when I'm looking. Nothing that I qualify for this week, but I may go ahead and apply for a couple of the things I don't qualify for, just to see. All they can do is ignore me imperiously, right?

Re: UMKC is always hiring for something.

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2004-11-09 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'll keep my eye out for anything around here.

[identity profile] kcwitch.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry to hear it. look at the bright side, at least now you don't have to continue to go to a job you hate.

Welcome flyer

[identity profile] matchgirl42.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the land of UnEnjoyment. My name is Julie and I will be your cruise director. Please keep all whining to a minimum, but feel free to whoop for joy as the mood strikes you. To your right you will see all the positives of not working at that job you no longer enjoyed. To your left you will see all the wonderful and positive possibilities opening up before you. Ahead of you is as much relaxation and free time as you can stand/afford.

Enjoy it m'dear. See you in spirit friday night.

Hopefully we can find someway, somehow, to get you down here in Dec. Will keep working on it. Never give up, never surrender. :D

[identity profile] bloominglotus.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa! That sucks...I'm really sorry.

[identity profile] druidevo.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that I can promise anything, but I wonder... Di you have a resume either paper or electronic. My mother is High up enough in the food chain and could at least ask around. Would you have any qualms being and office jockey for a collection of nursing homes?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll email you something tomorrow, after [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare and I get done hacking at the resume I've got. Thanks for the assist!

Resume

My resume is downloadable here:

Feel free to pass it on as you like.

Heh.

Wanted to see your resume, not that I can do any good getting you a new job all the way down here in FL, just out of curiosity.

But your resume keeps shutting down my wordpad program. It either freezes it or I get that pesky "this program has performed an illegal operation and will now close." Anybody else having this problem, or do I just have a retarded computer?

K,Thanks!

Re: Resume

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-11-11 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know - it is in a .doc format, and a pretty recent version. I suppose I could email it to you in .rtf or something.

Re: Resume

[identity profile] matchgirl42.livejournal.com 2004-11-12 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably my computer. Got infected with *&*&$^* spyware I just couldn't get rid of no matter how hard I tried, eventually had to re-format the hard drive, and that caused me to lose my Office suite, so I'll have to re-download that.

But if you could email it to me in .rtf format, that would be great. I'm dying of curiosity, I've never seen your resume.

*giggle* show me yours and I'll show you mine. ;)

[identity profile] druidevo.livejournal.com 2004-11-11 06:19 am (UTC)(link)

S'okay. Thanks for asking.
