Cheese, random friends, and nosybitchery

Life is better with cheese. I just had a lovely cheese and fruit lunch and am feeling much more optimistic about the universe in general. Which means, if we are subjectivists (and I am, but I don't know for sure about you), that my experience of the universe in general should improve. In any case, my toe is not hurting at the moment, and there was brie and roquefort and apples and raspberries, which is a good start.

Also, I've been friended by a random Kansas City person called [livejournal.com profile] sirvinegar, of whom I immediately approve, because not only does he have something against Ann Coulter, but also he claims to get better at darts the drunker he gets. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one in the world for whom alcohol increases dexterity. I am now a member of a small subculture with [livejournal.com profile] sirvinegar and Dr. Johnny Fever.

Finally, a question:

Ann Coulter annoys me. She is a frustrated dominatrix who lashes and slashes with words and accusations the way an honest Domme would brandish a whip. She needs to come out of her closet and admit that she wants to humiliate men and eat children and puppies. She should amass willing subs rather than hijack people whose opinions differ from hers for her domination fantasies. I have no respect for her. If you want to read a salty right-wing broad, read Florence King.

I will also agree with you that life is better with cheese. However, there is no amout on cheese that I can ingest that will make Mrs. Coulter seem better, so we must admit that cheese cannot solve all of our problems.

And I forget - drinking makes me a better bowler, as well. My average jumps up at least twenty points after the first beer. Not so much after that, though.

I know this made be hard to believe, but I have never drunk & bowled (drank & bowled? Stupid verb tenses). They just don't sell anything I'll drink in a bowling alley, as a rule. I'm a particular sort of beer drinker.

[identity profile] sirvinegar.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Me as well. I tend toward Boulevard (since it's local, I gotta represent), but most bowling alleys I've been in go more along the lines of Miller Lite. Perhaps that explains why I haven't bowled in years.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend towards stouts and porters in general. (Boulevard does make a damned good porter.) Really, if I can see through a beer, I don't want to drink it. So yellow beer is generally right out, unless it's unfiltered.

have drunk
have bowled

Ergo, have drunk and bowled.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

I know "have drunk" is correct, but it never sounds right to me. Not that any of the other options sound any better, really.

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2004-10-30 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
It might be because "have drunk and bowled" sounds like both verbs should take the same direct object, eg "I have never seen and heard so many idiots in one place before." "I have never drunk alcohol and bowled" sounds more right, but it's still not great.

In such cases, I prefer to generalize antiquated forms to words where they don't really apply, such as "I've neven drinken and bowlen before," or "Have you washen your hands?" But as we all know, I'm a freak.

Everyone who plays pool knows that beer helps.

Only if it's the other person who's drinking...

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Sorry, it's like the darts thing. More beer = Better skillz.

I am that strange person who plays pool, darts, poker, etc stone sober if I can at all help it.

[identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Freak.

(Takes one to know one.)

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Poker, certainly, is a poor bet when you're drinking. It doesn't require dexterity at all though, therefore shouldn't be considered with the rest of the games in this group.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't play pool myself, but I have heard that this is so from Dave Lister of Red Dwarf, who I consider to be a reliable source.

See? It's not such a tiny subculture after all.

Beer helps everything. I'm with you in terms of taste, too. The only yellow beer I like is Mexican.

Mexican Beer

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2004-10-29 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm. But why drink yellow Mexican beer when you could have a Negro Modelo?

Mmm. That's good. But I really like Dos Equis, too. Even if it is yellow.

yes, I remember Fever gettign more dextrous the drunker he became. I took full advantge of the tacit consent to indulge in goofy substances from him.

More Ann Coulter anti-fans, delightful.

We should form a club. Did you ever send me your cartoons?
