On going to Florida
I give up. Given my personality and lifestyle, there is simply no way I can avoid conflict with my mother and grandmother. I am basing this statement on the amount of trouble I have just gone to in the choosing of three shirts to pack for my trip to see the relatives. It's like this: nearly every shirt I own is objectionable in one way or another to either mom or grandma, and neither has any strong tendency to keep her opinions to herself (probably where I get it from, you think?). Anyway, anything with print on it seems to be out immediately, as it all seems to be from pagan festivals, pirate-related (because you know, skulls = death, and death is bad), dragon-related (because you know, dragons = the devil, and the devil is bad), or has some print on it relating it to a culture other than caucasian southern baptist (an otherwise unobjectionable red shirt was canned on account of the word 'Buddha' - I am not making this up. These things have set them off in the past.).
This leaves me with basically three black shirts. This also will not work, because you know, people that always wear black are all about death and the devil, and as previously mentioned, death and the devil are bad. So. One black shirt, the white shirt with frillies that
kcwitch bought me, and a Tori Amos t-shirt (which has been objectionable in the past, but I don't remember why, so maybe they won't either).
I could be wrong, but I don't think that this much clothing-related strategy should be required for anything, let alone a three-day trip to see the relatives. It does not bode well for the trip itself.

Perhaps I will print this out and tape it to your bathroom mirror, computer, bedside table, and dresser. I think if you repeated these two sentences often enough, it would dissolve one of the few remaining stress-producing conflicts in your life.
Of course, I'm one to talk about stress reduction. I'll shut up now.

You've been listening to my mother again, haven't you? (No joke, this was a quote from out trip to ... wait for it ... Florida!)
Seriously though. We've all got family we don't get along with, and if the three of us collectively decided not to let them rule over us any more, we would probably have significantly less stress in our lives. Or at the least, something to talk about for hours!
We're all adults, and what's more, we're not living with biological family anymore; so sayeth I, who still need to write my mother about the wedding.
But not until after the Winter Bazaar, gods bless it!

Sweet!
Re: Sweet!
The point of kittens and sunflowers is that it is exactly a fascade. Einstein you might actually wear normally... so that would still be conforming. Besides, I'm sure Einstein is evil too, he was germanic, the nazis were germanic, the nazis were evil, thus he is an evil genius and not appropriate. Or something like that. ;-)
