Memory hole.

I don't remember if I took my meds today or not. This is never good.
If I took them, and don't take any now, I'll be fine.
If I took them, and take another dose now, I'll be mildly manic for the next 12-24 hours.
If I didn't take them, and don't take any now, I'll be largely unable to function tomorrow.
If I didn't take them, and take another dose now, I'll be fine.

No clear winner. Damn.

Hmmmm.

What if you took a half dose today?

Don't know - never tried. They're awfully small pills to split...

they split fine in a pill splitter.

Conveniently I have the literature right here, assuming that you're on synthroid: "If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once." From that, I'd guess it's better for you to skip today and be sure to take it tomorrow.

Hehe. I know better than to take two at once deliberately. I have had many wisdom-building experiences with this.

Split the difference

If you've got the machinery, splitting it now may be your best option. At worst, you take half a dose too much, or too little, but half your day is past already... of course, Via has the pill splitter, and you may not.

You're supposed to take them first thing in the morning, right? So if it's now 4pm, then half your (waking) day is gone.

Chalk it up to collecting data, if you want. Plus, I'll sit up with you if I'm wrong. :)

Slightly manic for no specifically good reason,
David

sorry, no splitter here. I think they only cost a couple of bucks, though, so if this is a frequent question for you it might be worth the investment.

No - usually I'm certain whether I've taken a pill or not. This does not and should not imply that I am always correct about whether or not I've had one, however. It's just that I don't know I'm wrong until afterwards.

I'd suggest the calendar thing, then -- I've gotten a lot better about it since I made a habit of having a pen in one hand when I take the pill and not putting it down again until I've marked the day. I still have days when I completely forget to take it, but at least I don't double dose.

May as well. Gods know I write down every other damned thing I do.

Well, not *everything*.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2003-12-04 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I do write down a significant number of things though, if they're the sort of things that I think I might need to reference later for some reason. And, as one of those categories of things I might need to reference later is "Things the doctor is likely to ask about", pills, and whether I've taken them or not, should probably be added to the list.

Fair enough

Took more-or-less half a pill. For science.

Thank you for the offer to sit up with me - It's always better when your lack of sleep involves a friend.

Also, I expect to be even peachier than usual in the ritual teams meeting if this should happen to be an overdose. (I'll blame it on that, anyway.)

So, how did that work out for you? is it a Good Idea(tm) or not?

Good Idea?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2003-12-05 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. I was up till stupid-thirty *and* couldn't get out of bed this morning. I'm not sure how much of that was the meds and how much was just my personal foulness of mood yesterday though. Need more data.

::takes pill, puts "T" on calendar::

Thanks for reminding me, doll!

I'm surprised it hits you that quickly -- it takes me about a month of skipping before I notice anything, and a year before it becomes intolerable (when parts of my brain starts swelling and I go crazy). But I'm only on 125mcg, so that might have to do with it.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2003-12-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. It gets a lot worse. But I find that even one or two missed doses makes it painfully difficult to do things like get out of bed, or climb stairs.
I don't start getting really fun till about the 6 month mark though, myself.

I know for me, the few times I've forgotten to take my dextroamphetamine (for ADD), I'd prefer to be manic and get the anxiety attacks than to forget my sentences halfway through or be too distracted to be able to drive.

Tell us how it goes.

P.S. I almost always remember to take mine since it's so nasty when I forget.
