Algorithm for determining grade-level appropriateness of reading material. It looks at number of words per sentence, I think number of clauses per sentence, and number of large words vs. small words. A score of 8 means that an 8th grader should be able to read it easily. If I recall correctly from my intro to news writing and reporting course, the average newspaper article in the US gets a Flesch-Kincaid score of soemwhere between 5 and 6, indicating that most news material should be accessible to a sixth grader.

It doesn't correspond to level of the writer, just level of the writing. Besides which, at the moment, half of the text in your journal is those big-ass surveys, which aren't punctuated in any normal fashion, and probably throw off the words-per-sentence count. :)

I've always felt you should go on Jeopardy(can you believe I had to go look up the spelling of that? Proves the whole point) and make a whole lot of money. You know they have a new rule this year...champions stay on as long as they keep winning.
