Blogorrhea!

My brain is running oddly today. Yesterday, too. So people who are waiting on questions from me re: my last post will probably have to keep waiting until I can get back on track.

Last night I had a dream in which I was defending the use of masks in classical greek theatre to someone who was insisting that masks did not exist until the Renaissance. Very frustrating, and no research material is available in dreams.

Failed to get a massage from [livejournal.com profile] starwyse, even though I had an appointment. Work went to hell in a bucket at about 3 p.m. and I got out of the office late, then sat in traffic forever and a day. Still made it to the Social Justice meeting, though.

Social Justice is working on sending care packages to pagan soldiers (so if you happen to be or have been a pagan soldier, I'd sort of appreciate hearing what you think would be good to send in such a package). Highlight of the meeting was [livejournal.com profile] iron_clad dropping by, and getting to watch him ride away on [livejournal.com profile] zerself's little scooter. That's a day's worth of funny, right there.

To do list:
RIGHT NOW THIS WEEK:
- Sort out what to wear to the event we're going to on Saturday. This may require getting [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and myself fitted for tuxes, assuming that one can rent a tux on Tuesday for an event on Saturday.
- Meet with [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn to plan a class on Brigid for a week from Sunday
- Research for said class

BEFORE DRAGONCON:
- Register for parade. Ask [livejournal.com profile] wildnsquirrelly and [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42 if they want to be pirates in the parade again. Find out who the Brian to be named later is, and if he's likely to want to be a pirate.
- Get clothes back from [livejournal.com profile] archway so that I have something to wear in parade
- Have profound hope red bodice still fits. Failing that, learn to straight-lace
- Ask [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare about wrap pants pattern
- Find/make skirt pattern for Promethea costume (Like this?.
- Wonder idly where I put the fabric for the Promethea costume
- Buy stuff for costumes: I need a wig, a shit-ton of gold hoop earrings (most magnetic or spring-clip), fine gold chain, little gold foil stamped coins, fine gold wire, and some resin incense.
- Make stuff for costumes: Promethea skirt/top (may require a leotard/underthing), Promethea shoulder pin (sculpey and gold-leaf for the win), Athan Miere perfume-boxes, Athan Miere chain/coin jewelry, Athan Miere pants

I think [livejournal.com profile] diermuid had a link to a good wrap pants pattern. I may even have it bookmarked at home, if I was smart that day.

I have a black-with-gold hipscarf (can also be used as a headwrap) I can lend you -- and some sweet-smellling resin incense that I don't need back! If you'd like these, send your mailing address to fifthhouse@gmail.com

There used to be an Amtgard costuming page that had a pattern on it, but it seems to be gone now. If all else fails, I think I can adapt this one (http://totallystitchin.net/projects/pdf/Proj79-Project-Sarong_Wrap_Pants.pdf) (warning, it's a pdf).

Saff was going to do a pattern from the pair of wrap pants I already have, though... I should email her right now while I'm thinking about it.

Thanks, but:

I actually don't need a hipscarf, but I do need the little jingly coins that would adorn one -- have any idea where to get those?

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have done a great deal of staring at the wrap pants and thinking through a pattern in my head. It'll probably take me an hour or less to actually *produce* a pattern at this point; finding that hour is something I'm consistently failing to do.

Mea culpa. What's your deadline?

Like I said, no worries. I'm trying to get a pair made for DragonCon (end of August). Take a look at the pattern in the comment, and see what you think? Seems like I could just use a larger piece of fabric and get longer legs out of it.

If you need help with straight lacing let me know! That one I do know how to do. If you get in a sewing bind (oops, cat out of bag) let me know, I've been sewing since I was 4.

and former pagan myself, I'll give a list as best I can.

Gatorade powder in as much quantity as you can manage. Vary the flavors.

The flavor packets that you put in bottled water? Sams club carries these in bulk. They are a God(dess) send.

Beef Jerky. 'Nuff said.

baby wipes. LOTS of baby wipes. and dont get the unscented ones. by the time they get here in the mail they smell like ass. Get some "fresh" or "ocean" or something. no "smells like baby", though. that'll get us laughed at.

PICTURES. I cannot stress this enough. Pictures of home, of friends, of parties that we miss, of our house, our dog, etc etc. Just pics that remind us why we're here.

There's a bunch more, I just cant think of them right now. Its 0100 where I am. I'll try to re-reply later.

Thank you!

We want to help, you know, but we want to help in a way that will actually be helpful, and not just a demonstration of vapid goodwill. :)

Teach me too? I need to figure it out or gain about 20 pounds before faire starts next month. I'd rather learn a new skill...

I've certainly never been a soldier, but this website (http://www.give2thetroops.org/items.htm) might have a few good ideas for you.
