Heroes!

Last night (and early this morning), I moved the last of my stuff out of my old apartment and cleaned the place up. I was able to do this with much much help from [livejournal.com profile] diermuid, [livejournal.com profile] kcwitch, David, and Mercedes, who all kindly went along for the ride. All of those people are officially on my hero list (they were before, but still, worth noting). We were all up until about 3 a.m., and finally got everything done. Now all my stuff is in the same place except for the things I've given in long-term/indefinite loan to kcwitch and diermuid. This is the part where I go "Yay!!" and bounce up and down. Except I'm too tired.

Anyway, now all I've got to do is unpack everything and decide what stuff needs to be given away, thrown away, or rendered down to its component useful parts. We threw tons of stuff out of the apartment last night - it was a profoundly liberating experience...
Me: "OK, no more stuff can fit in the van or the car - either take it, or put it in the dumpster"
Various other people: "What about this ________?"
Me: "Dumpster!"

Yay, getting rid of things!

I hate seeing good 'stuff' go to the dumpster... but I coped well this time. Perhaps because I have spent the past half year trying to organize the boxes of 'stuff' I already have.

Woman, you better keep your hands off my stuff!!!

Steve has the rule "If something comes in, something must go out."

My thought is: "If we are going to fill up landfills with our stuff just because we aren't using it, we are not responsible enough to buy new things."

True, I have been throwing away more stuff... but it is broken or worthless stuff. Now that I am semi-organized, I can take a crack at fixing things once or twice before it gets chucked. And that is all I ever really wanted to do in the first place.
