(no subject)

Sometime, about this time last year, I was monstrously depressed. I'd lost my job and had no prospects of getting another one, and so on and so forth. And lo, here it is this time of year again, and I'm going to lose this job now, and have no prospects of getting another one, and so it goes, and so it goes. I'd really like to lose a job in the spring some year, or some other time when you can go to interviews without having to worry about snow and ice and such.

But anyway, that's not the point. The point is that in this entry, I wrote that the only things I felt like I was any good at were sex and pie, and while those were both fine things, they're hardly enough to justify one's existence on. This year, I'm finding myself able to admit that the sex and pie statement is not exactly true. I'm adding to my list of things I'm good at. I seem to also be good at making beaded jewelry and at buying good gifts for people. So, from where I'm sitting, that's a 100% increase in things I'm good at from last year to this year. And that's worth something.

So tell me, children, what are you good at? Have you become good at anything new this year?

From my OKCupid profile:

I'm really good at:
Carrying things. Worrying. Taking directions. Procrastination. Massage. Listening. Daydreaming. Digging myself deeper.

I like to think I'm a good mother and wife. I give terrific blow jobs. I'm humble too.

I can now have intelligent conversations about cronic pain and painkiller cocktails, that's new for the year.

Oh yeah, and I bought a house, but Earth and Water (mice and plumbing) are attacking that with gusto... so I'll stick with the searing pain thing. (Fire?)

I learned to knit, and I'm now pretty darn good at the going-back-and-forth thing. In 2006, I may actually learn how to read a knitting pattern, and then...jump back!

I discovered a previously-untapped talent for surveying.

I can trim a tenderloin.

I have become very good at hanging up my jacket instead of throwing it places in the apartment.

Surveying land or people?

Also, I became very good at hanging up my jacket last year, after [livejournal.com profile] triadruid threatened me with lack of sex if I didn't. There are some ways in which I'm very easy to manipulate, I think. :)

Surveying land or people?

Yes.

Learning to swerve when the twists in the road come, I guess.

And cooking. I've just about achieved competency in the basic cooking skills (i.e., the things I cook are edible and taste good).

i'm good at singing (it's a given), sex, and people networking (i guess that is what you would call it) you know, getting people together with other people, helping people, etc...

I found out that I am very good at being a release coordinator. I hadn't realized how well that fits my personality. It's got enough programming and enough people interaction that both those sides of my are made happy...
