Geekery, ho!

It's always a good morning when the headlines include the phrase Galactic Spaceport, isn't it?

Also, we spent some time at EHQ last night watching the old Aeon Flux cartoons. I now understand why I continually have dreams about reaching into my skin and pulling out gadgets, or putting them in. Too much time watching Aeon Flux in college, apparently, since in virtually every short there is some moment at which one of the characters does this. Which is good. For a moment there, I thought it was just the way I was. Much easier to blame the media, no? Watching the cartoons again also mitigated some of my major criticisms of the film (which [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I saw and were mildly disappointed in on Sunday). Not only is Martin Csokas not creepy enough to be Trevor Goodchild, but also no person alive on this earth could be creepy enough to be Trevor Goodchild, so I think that's okay. Clearly, the filmmakers were up against impossible odds.

What doesn't kill us makes us stranger...

Humph!! I'll bet I could be Trevor Goodchild!!!

(By the way, never having seen the comic, the shows, or the movie, who is Trevor Goodchild?)

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
See, you only say this because you don't know...

[identity profile] infintysquared.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Trevor Goodchild is Teh [Hotness|Strangeness].

Actually, I've got the graphic novel/backstory file, which was arranged kind of like a classified file folder but provided a lot of filler details.

It also included a mini-comic detailing Goodchild's plan to assassinate Flux by augmenting his testicles with nanobot generators, then sleeping with her.

The plan worked, up through "sleeping with her." Then, when the sperm-shaped chomper bots swam all up ins, they were met by THE VAGINA DENTATA FROM HELL.

Heh. Vagina Dentata is a hilarious thing to think about.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And you could totally sing it to the tune of "Hakuna Matata." That's funny.

I squish your fun.

Not here, you can't.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That is pretty funny.

I recall at some point (back in my hazy former life) seeing the dossier or whatever it was marketed as, and going, "I should get that", but alas, it never came to pass.

One of the bits on the tape we were watching was the one where he makes a bunch of Aeon-clones (one of whom is actually the original) and then is disinterested in her/them because they act like they want to sleep with him. It's a complicated relationship, theirs.

I'm pretty sure Chris Walken isn't strange enough to be TG, and he's the only one who seems to come close in both looks and weirdness. But he'd have to be dubbed by John Malkovich or something, because Walken can't..talk, ya know? And Trevor, well.... he can.

But I think CW has already worn wings, which is a plus in his corner.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to suggest Walken as the closest possible candidate, actually.

Clearly, you've got the brain today.

for what it's worth

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Rhys-Meyers needs a decade or two on him to qualify. Walken might need a decade less. Not trying to be age-ist or anything...just, er, exercising my imagination. Yeah. Maybe Jeff Goldblum?

Speaking of creepy actors, Willem Dafoe was surprisingly sweet and funny in The Life Aquatic, which we finally saw last night. (Jeff Goldblum is in that too.)

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Trevor Goodchild? Oh gods and monsters. I'd shout "Don't Visualize" and wave my arms about wildly, but it's already too late. See if I get any work done this afternoon now.

Also, I very much liked The Life Aquatic, but I understand that I was in the minority on that one.

with wings, even

I was surprised to enjoy The Life Aquatic as much as I did, but there you go. I'm thinking of dying stripes of my hair blue and getting bangs, like Angelica. (shrug)

I loved The Life Aquatic! And you're right about Willem Dafoe in it.

Goldblum might be good, but has he ever exhibited the ability to speak clearly? I'm trying to think of an example...

The thing about Trevor is that he's twitchy and neurotic as hell, but he *talks* like friggin' Machiavelli. He *always* has the answer, he's enver at a loss for words, and his voice is distinctively calming and confident. Finding someone who can match him both for physical creepiness and vocal chutzpah is probably the root of the problem.

Tried and true: Gary Oldman. Not that he could play everything, mind, but he seems a fairly good match for what you just described.

Re: for what it's worth

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-13 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I never thought I'd say this, but I don't think Oldman can do creepy enough.

Okay then. This is some serious creepiness. I confess that I do not know for certain what we're about here. I've watched maybe 20 minutes of Aeon Flux altogether. We'd catch bits of it on MTV every so often, and it always seemed to be the same part of the same episode every time. Very strange.

Crispin Glover?

Hm. He's pretty damn creepy, you're right. I don't recall hearing him...like, talk lately.

Well, one can't go by the vocals in the Back to the Future films.

What a terrifying proposition.

huh? Can't track this to a particular comment.

Maybe. Maybe I've got it after all. Something seems to be bouncing about up there, anyway.
