LJ-Balderdash, round One Results

Point tally for the first round (Having One's Ashes Hauled):

The clear winner for this round was [livejournal.com profile] druidevo, who submitted option 6 (servicing the ship on shore leave) and got 7 votes.
Next was [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare, whose Etruscans in option 7 attracted 4 votes.
[livejournal.com profile] kittenpants comes in third, with option 1 about double-parking your donkey, which got 3 votes.
Also garnering votes were [livejournal.com profile] lexpendragon (2 votes for option 3, cremation practices among the Northern Europeans) and [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42 (1 vote for option 8, Sabbath servants).

Also, [livejournal.com profile] adammaker's entry about voiding your poisons (#5) got a vote, but that was from [livejournal.com profile] adammaker himself, who didn't read the rules and will have to be taken out back and flogged. No points for him.

Interestingly enough, there was no right answer for this round. Both [livejournal.com profile] adammaker's and [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42's entries came with references about the true origin of the phrase, even though they were entirely different. Etymology of slang is notoriously hard to pin down, especially when we're talking about phrases that are older than say, last year. Anyway, good answers everybody! Will post a new round soon, possibly with a picture.

Congrats to [livejournal.com profile] druidevo for his most excellent definition. And to [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale for finding a game I'd actually play.

I was surprised that you did! But it's a game about being clever, which I think you don't mind so much.

Etruscans! I bet I would've gotten one more vote if [livejournal.com profile] chronarchy were in the country, too. :)

Almost as good as Hittites!

I need a Hittite icon.

Very strange. In another LJ-move-related SNAFU, my new tea icon has been randomly replaced by this black kitty. Omen or pizza?

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-11-23 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. I see the civilization/teatime icon.

Curiouser and curiouser. I see a black kitty on a pumpkin. It's also loaded itself onto my Manage User Pic page.

Definitely an omen.

I see "I always fear that creation will expire before tea time"
ext_3038: Red Panda with the captain "Oh Hai!" (eat your head)

I see the teatime icon. However, LJ has been having trouble with their image servers lately (part of the whole move SNAFU). I don't know yet whether it's permanent or temporary, but the fact that we see your teatime icon bodes well for recovery...I think.

The Big Kitty's icons have been odd lately... as in none. And a few others have been that way as well.

oops, Flogged 'cause I was in a hurry.

well, that's not new.

Acceptance speech

I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You've brought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses no pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose

I've wanted to ask but haven't gotten around to it... is that you in that pic?

Is this you in this one too? :-)

Congrats, [livejournal.com profile] druidevo. And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale for coming up with a great game!

And uh...I don't mean to be nitpicky, but didn't mine get 2 votes? I'm just sayin'. :D

Er, yes, actually. Sorry about that.
