Hehee! And other noises of triumph.

Not a bad series of two days by any means. Finally bothered to pick up a tripod for the itty bitty digital camera, so that I can manage to take close up shots without my charming fine motor tremors interfering. This means that I can start posting my jewelry on deviantart and that I can start trying to sell my stuff and [livejournal.com profile] opaljax's on ebay. Woo!

Also, my new monitor arrived today. I had gotten my previous monitor for free from a friend who was pitching out old equipment from his office and replacing it. For a time, it was a good monitor, and of course, worth every cent I paid for it. However, it was making the flickering of screen and unannounced tint changes that herald a monitor's passage into the Great Unknown, so it was clear that something had to be done. So I figured, hell, I've got some money saved up from when the State of Kansas withheld checks from me over the holidays and then sent them to me all at once, why not buy a flat-panel? I had to replace the old one anyway, and this one (aside from looking fabulous) solves a major office problem for me: I can't wait until the Cheerleader Cat tries to jump on top of this one (mwa ha ha). The new supersleek black monitor does look fairly dumb in front of my uberclunky IBM pre-windows keyboard, but that's okay. I'm not giving up this keyboard until it dies. I like the noise of the keys and I adore the fact that it doesn't have a Windows key at all.

Thirdly, and justifying the above two things, I got a job offer yesterday! The job is not really all that compelling, but the money is good and they want to hire me right away, which is a plus. The company is a distributor of aftermarket auto parts, and I'll be in their corporate office. Like many companies whose primary business is manufacturing or warehousing, they require all of their employees to pass a drug screen, regardless of job function. So I had to go pee in a cup this morning, which I hate, but hey, it's a paycheck coming, so I suppose it doesn't hurt.

I'm also working on some stuff for Nine Fires Press today -- I feel so damned productive.

You can always tell who is typing on what in our office by the rate of speed and the sound of their distinctive keyboard...

Congrats on the job and hoop-jumping/cup-peeing as well, of course.

Have now, yeh.

I'm just ramping up to go to fencing. :)

fencing

[identity profile] triadruid.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
FanTAStic.

Poke somebody for me; I'll be wandering around Blue Ridge Blvd. looking for my meeting. By the way, did you see that Devin wanted you to call him about tonight's fencing excursion?

Re: fencing

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be glad to poke anybody who will allow me to poke them. For you, the queen, and anybody.

I will give D. a call.

Also, can you pick up some milk on your way home? My malt-based research has reminded me that there isn't any. Chocolatey malty Ovaltine is pretty good dry, but I feel more justified in consuming it if there's milk involved.
ext_3038: Red Panda with the captain "Oh Hai!" (david as felix from QOW)

milk?

[identity profile] triadruid.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Is *that* why we've had gallons in the fridge again after getting by on quarts & pints for so long? I was wondering...

Yes, if I remember I'll grab some on the way home. Call my cell phone if there's anything else.

Re: milk?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It is a vector for my ovaltine.

[identity profile] rio-luna.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
yea! make sure you get your Spiral time off!!!

what's nine fires press???

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah - that's a thing that I'm going to have to negotiate for. The standard hiring package doesn't give any vacation the first year. However, in the long term, I may not be working there by September anyway, having also gotten an offer from a friend to work for her when her current HR Director leaves. I fully intend to jump over there when the chance arises.

Nine Fires is a publishing company that [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare is spearheading -- right now the company makes and sells pagan greeting cards, but will expand into copywriting, editing, general publishing stuff. We're working on getting the website up this week or next. I imagine you'll hear more about that.

Also, I was working on some icons for you, then had an inexplicable GIMP crash, and lost everything :( Will try again later.

[identity profile] rio-luna.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
dude I so want to hear more about this when it's up. sounds very cool.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of The GIMP, I managed somehow to un-anchor the open tool window from the bottom of the main screen. Any clue as to how to make it go back where it belongs. I find the double-clicking and the other window popping up to be annoying in the extreme. I have no clue how I did it.

Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok then. I, of course, did not know the answer to this, so I had to un-dock mine and screw with it to find out. I did, however, discover how to fix it. Go to the File menu and click on Preferences. This will bring up a whole buttload of stuff. Click on Themes, then hit Reload Current Theme. Exit the program. When you pull it back up, your tool options menu will be back where it belongs.

Re: Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Very brave indeed. I salute you. Might you also tell me how I managed to undock it so I don't do it again? I really have no idea. There was a random click on nothing, and then, hey, presto, HAL couldn't open the bay door.

Re: Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I undocked mine by clicking on the top of the options box window and dragging it. I assume that you did something very similar :)

Re: Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Or that, yeah.

Re: Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
By the way, when I selected the theme folder, there was no option to Reload Current Theme. I found that under Preferences/Interface, but it didn't put the Tool Options window back under the main GIMP page. Any other ideas?

D'oh!

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You've got to restart the program for it to take effect.
I'm using 2.0, though, so if you're on a different version, there may be a completely different process to this.

Re: Experimentation, voila!

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I did that. No luck, and now I'm out of Red Dwarf icons.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Dammit. Well, I don't know what to tell you then. It worked for me. Sorry.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
I can always reload the program. It's no big deal in the whole scope of life, but very annoying nonetheless.

And I lied. I have one more.

Speaking of Preferences, under Interface>Image Windows I've found it very helpful to check 'resize window on zoom'. It avoids one having to constantly adjust the window when you zoom in and out; however I think you have to click Save before OK to get it to last past a new instance of The GIMP.

I did that too, and doing what you guys suggested in comments didn't help me, either. I'll try fiddling around with mine this weekend and let you know if I unwittingly/accidentally stumble across a solution. :)

Good heavens.

I think I've just gotten my RDA of enthusiasm and exclamation points all at once -- and [livejournal.com profile] opaljax wasn't even in sight...

Me, I'm just glad she's feeling productive/better.

Besides, it might lead to poking later, even if I'm not at fencing practice tonight.

**foot ball goal hands** yay, job!! And just for the benefit of the computer-handicapped, when you get done with posting the things (yes, yours too) on ebay and deviantart, will you post the link, or send it to me, please?? I'm curious, and want to see. Did I mention, yay, job?? And what the heck, I do not use too many exclamation points!!! :D

Actually, you do use enough exclamation points that your replies are frequently marked spam by my email filters :-)

Woo-Hoo... Congrats on the job.

Cats On Monitors

[identity profile] lexpendragon.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
My Cat, Mazzie, Liked to Sleep On My Monitor. A Habit I Always Encouraged, Because She Was Really Cute Up There.

Well, One Day My Friend Brought Over His New iMac. Mazzie Lept On Top, As She Would Any Monitor, To Find That There Was Nothing Behind The Edge Of It. The Monitor, Also, Sunk. She Jumped Off And Bolted, Unhurt, But The Event Jarred Both The iMac, My Cat, As Well As The Owner Of The Very Expensive Brand New Computer.

Re: Cats On Monitors

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Fear. I try to discourage Psyche from sleeping on the monitor, not necessarily because I have a problem with her being on the monitor, but because she lacks the necessary cat skills to dismount properly from the monitor. Her exit from this position would nearly always result in a displacement of papers, soda can, or other critical items from my desktop, which is a poor course of events for organization, and scared the cat besides. I'd like to say that I'm sure she will realize that there is no longer any monitor to sit on, but I know this cat, and this cat is dumb.

And verrra pretty jewelry, too.
