Elections and related unpleasantness

First, in a story called to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] nfin8ndefn8, Hunter S. Thompson is still my hero. There he is, in Rolling Stone, calling G.W. Bush "The Syphillis President". Not exactly high political discourse, but exquisitely phrased as always. I really struggle not to read Thompson out loud - there's a rhythm to his writing that demands to be spoken.

In other news, it may not be the U.N., but this election does come with international observers, and they're unimpressed.

Closer to home, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and I are still struggling over what to wear to the Bush Flaunt. It's something of a shame that a household that owns a Nazi staff coat, a Pope hat, and a fair approximation of an English foxhunting outfit can't figure out what to wear to a political satire, but there you have it.

Also worth including: Ann Coulter vs. Pies!

They won't let you into the bar like that.

Unless you're covered in latex body paint. And maybe then only in Miami.

And in more disturbing news, the Channel 1 mock student election "voted" Bush into office overwhelmingly. It wasn't just a popular vote. They did it as if the students in each state actually voted for electors and did the real deal.

I'm happy to report that my students were incredulous. Not that they know what incredulous means, really, but they were exactly that. Say what you will about the 'Dotte, but it is a Democratic county.
