Non-attachment, non-disinterest

If you'll notice, you haven't seen the "if you can't stop thinking about someone" behavior-unit show up in my journal. This doesn't mean I'm not thinking about you. It just means that I can stop, whenever I want, and do from time to time, just to keep in practice.

That said, today I'm missing [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42, Emperor Kristoff, Dan the Abbot of Lesbians, and especially Daven (but I'm glad he's stateside these days). Those are my far-offs, but I'm also missing some of the near-and-dear crowd. They know who they are.

So yeah. Non-attachment, non-disinterest means that there are outcomes you'd prefer, but that you're still flexible enough to accept it and move on with your life if it doesn't work that way. I'm reading a very interesting short book on game theory these days, which focuses on the difference between games you play to win, and games you play to play. I think I'm going to give it to [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare when I'm done. It ties in well to the magician's meta-model - in its terms, we're playing a series of finite games (the sort you play to win) within an infinite game (the sort you play to play)... Torn between going, "Well, duh", and not being able to wrap my head around it properly. Film at 11.

Your warning label makes me sad. I send huggles.

If I may ask

What's the name of the book?

I believe that it's called "Finite and Infinite Games", but I'm only about 60% sure of that - I can post it with more certainty when I get home.

That is the correct title; author is James P. Carse.

I'm missing Emperor Norton the First. Just because.

He is with us in spirit. Or, we are like him in spirit, when we bother to be. One of those things.

Emperor Norton ate my reply.

Well, y'know, some of us are just more evolved than others...

I'd be more inclined to say

Some of us have evolved with different priorities than others.
